Peek-A-Boo
I count the numbers aloud
with such clarity
and shielded eyes shut.
Permutations busy my mind
as vowels continue to cackle
and consonants linger bold.
I feel the sun’s warmth
tempt my intertwined fingers;
I taste the sweetness
of your scent as
the wind tip-toes along,
smiling the way you do.
Depreciating integers force
through pursing lips
as my eyes grow restless.
How childish I think
as the counting concludes
and my eyes open hurriedly
to see you before me
face to face save for
two cupped hands
for a mask.
“I see you.”
