I hope you know
How much it hurts
To see a promise be broken,
To watch it shatter
Into a million little pieces
As if someone dropped a glass
On to cold linoleum tiles.
Break a mirror's fragile glass
And you're screwed for seven years.
Lose someone's fragile trust
And there's a lot more work to do.
You can hammer nails,
Sharp, cold metal
Into a pure,
Unscathed
White picket fence,
And when you're doone
You can take them out.
It takes some prying
And serious elbow grease,
But eventually you can
Wriggle them out.
There's just one problem;
You can't fill the holes that are
Left behind.
