Nervous nibbling of lips
Smoothing velvet over thighs
Adjusting biting straps
Twisting turning procrastinating
Vision blocked by heavy lashes
Finally
Head up, hands down
Straighten on in the mirror
Irises darken
Jaw drops
Awkward curves and broad shoulders
Wisps of hair straggling to frame
A still-round face
Dress rucked up on the left
Pulled too tight across the hips

Despair turn out the lights
Slumping down an endless hallway
Uncrystallized beauty shattered
In her reflection

Come
Take my hand
Let us smash all the mirrors
And let our only reflections e in
Each other’s eyes.
