His unbuttoned shirt
His ruffled-up hair
His sideways-turned cap
His bright blue-eyed stare

Only for him
Would I agree to this role
He holds me onstage
He touches my soul

But it’s just an act
We’re just playing the parts
The costume change is done
We’re two separate hearts

Your logo tee shirt
Your close-cut brown hair
Your warm inviting smile
Your dark chocolate stare

Only for you
Would I knock down my walls
I stop playing the role
My insecurity falls

But it’s just a title
We go along just for fun
Is it something more?
Or is Act II really done?

The author's comments:
I act in community theater, and my boyfriend came and saw my most recent show--where I get engaged to another guy. Stanzas 1-3 are about the other guy. Stanzas 4-6 are about my boyfriend. Sometimes I feel like I have to act for people. Not for him.
