Arkansas is Home
Arkansas is home.
Where the trees can quietly sway in the wind,
then a tornado could be forming the next.
On humid Summer afternoons,
has one ever taken the time to lay back
on a merry-go-round,
and appreciate the clear blue skies?
On the occasion that it snows,
on a freezing Winter evening,
has one ever sipped hot cocoa
and loved the way the snow
covers the street like a blanket?
Similar to the way a mother
covers her child with their favorite blankie?
When the leaves fall and rustle
at the start of Autumn,
does it bring back memories
of your first day of school?
Eagerly awaiting the new friends
you’d yet to meet.
When the purple orchids
start to blossom on the sides of houses,
and when you can smell the morning dew
just as strong as the coffee that’s brewing,
you know it’s Spring.
Although there’s nothing more to this
than the “Natural State”,
Arkansas is forever the place that I will call home.
