&quot;Hope and Memory have one daughter and her name is Art, and she has built her dwelling far from the desperate field where men hang out their garments upon forked boughs to be banners of battle. O beloved daughter of Hope and Memory, be with me for a little.&quot;<br /> - The Celtic Twilight, W. B. Yeats

Tonight I'm living
on the salt of my tears,
drinking the brine:
I am empty and burning
but my throat is too full to swallow.

-

I showed you the door and the mocking sky smiled down on me,
the stars dancing and whirling the blue,
as if to say
Look, we've found each other;
so what's your problem?

My problem is that I've never shined brightly enough
to be a star;
 never loved life enough
to accept the burning end.

-

Tonight my skin soaks up regret like my eyes once soaked up beauty.

There is no right or wrong way to live. We simply just live.

This poem reminds me of many nights that I've spent alone, unhappy and confused. Beautifully written! Check out some of my work (:

This is gorgeous - very thoughtful, very personal, very oneself. Keep writing like this!

Thanks! That's actually a quote from the poet Sharon Olds.

The first stanza was terrific. 'I am empty and burning but my throat is too full to swallow'- you captured it perfectly.

I reallly, really, really, really, really, love your last line. "Tonight my skin soaks up regret like my eyes once soaked up beauty." That is pure genius. I'm giving this a 5/5!
