The Attic
How you yearned to fly,
Wings spreading each day…
Every day you watched the sky
Change from blue to grey.
No matter the impending weather,
The silky mist would shroud.
As the tips of your feathers,
Brushed upon each cloud.
You flew to my window yesterday,
Chirped beautiful songs to me,
Since a storm was on its way,
I opened the window with glee,
Closed and locked it with the key,
And never set you free.
