"If I wasn't meant to fly, I wouldn't have these wings"

I cast my eyes skyward,
And seek the healing of the wind.
I stretch my wings,
And hope to fly one day.
Feel the sand beneath my feet,
And see you walking across the way.
Just a gap between,
And yet miles of space.
My best friend,
You smile my way.
My hollow eyes and broken soul,
They can't receive the gesture.
Twisted and mutilated.
My best friend,
Where has your light gone?
You go your way,
Blind to my stabbing pain.
I'm still here,
Waiting.
My best friend,
Where did your light go?
My best friend,
Where did you go?

Laugh, and the world laughs with you;
Weep, and you weep alone.
For the sad old earth must borrow it's mirth,
But has trouble enough of its own.

I love this. I could tell it was from a specific time in your life, but I still found it relatable. It reminded me of an old friend of mine. Flows really well, amazing job.
