A Tiny Treasure

Little baby girl
Sitting on the nearly white kitchen table
Toes pointed sharply
Folded
Under her diapered bottom

Wearing blue pants
Loose, yet tautly stretched
Around her squishy legs
Faded
Softened
With excessive wear

White, crumpled tee-shirt
Red, blue, green writing
Covered in spots of dried on food and drink
Having dribbled down her chin
Hours, days, weeks in the past
Washed and cleaned many times in between
Still, the stains are set

Soft arms bent at her elbows
Reaching for her mouth
Firmly gripped between
Tiny, delicate hands,
A muffin half her size
Brown
Crumbly
Store bought

Being shoved into her mouth
Mmm mmm yum yum
All over her face
Little mouth
Too small to accommodate it
All at once

The tiniest nose
You ever did see
Surrounded by cheeks
Begging to be pinched
By annoying family and friends

Her eyes
Blue enough
To swim in
Her hair
So brown
It’s almost black
Short, messy curls
Too gently soft to resist

Great visuals.  I'm sure I know this child....and many like her.  Beautiful.
