Crystal skies of silver-blue
She lied in the dying fall grass, her soul away from her
For one of many moments, her frail body lying limp in the grass
Her heart still dared to beat, at least for now
He couldn’t help but cry because he loved her
And nothing he could do could change her
She was dying

The valleys seemed to weep for the girl
As September skies gave away to grey
The mountains loomed like dying hope
And every day he still loved her

The summer’s gone
The lovely roses of summer are falling to the earth
The girl, so pale, so frail, so grey like all those roses
“Please just go, I must stay behind”
And so the valleys seemed to weep

“Return to me, when the summer’s comfort revives
Or when these meadows are blanketed with quiet snow
I’ll be here in the spring light and the cold winter dark
I love you… but now it’s time to go”

And he returned, but all the flowers were fading
The summer had once again left behind the valley
And the girl was gone, for it was time for her to part
He returned and found the place of her eternal sleep
And knelt and prayed to Mary for her peace

She knows, although he tried to be quiet
And now her everlasting slumber becomes more comforted
Beneath the soft earth from which she was born and is now returned
For he then bent and told her that he loves her
She lies in eternal serenity until he comes to her
