Daddy, I wish I could make you proud,
But I'm not who you think you see.
I can't be the perfect girl you want,
So you'll never be proud of me.
Daddy, I want to be someone,
Someone who's kind and brave and strong.
But when I look at your disappointed face,
It feels like it might be wrong.
Daddy, I know who you want me to be,
And I'm sorry, but I won't try.
I know who I really am,
And I'm not going to live a lie.
Daddy, I know you disapprove
of who you now see.
But I'm done listening to you,
Because this is the real me.
