Mindless Sheep
Mindless Sheep
The One who made the rules keeps them,
He alone passed his own test.
Incapable of being like him,
We are damned with all the rest.
We, created sick and hurting,
Are commanded to be well.
“Repair your inherent flaws
Or forever burn in Hell.”
What a sick game we are playing,
Doomed from before the start.
“Kill off what makes you unique,
Become a mindless pawn at heart”
That’s how you can save your soul:
Trade away your passions gold.
Trim yourself with cookie-cutter,
Be conformed to that plain mold.
Tell me what capable Creator
Chooses to make damaged goods?
His holiness was just too great
To allow us in his neighborhood.
But he still loves us all the same,
Knows each one by his full name,
Keeps track of every time we fail
And records in his Book of Blame.
He demands perfection from imperfect people,
Created us lame and then told us to walk.
“If you just spend your life under a steeple,
On your knees and to God alone you talk—“
But what about the passions and burning desires,
The very things that make life worth living?
“Cast away personality to the fires,
And be thankful for a God so giving.”
Mindless sheep go to the slaughter,
So completely unaware
The very shepherd that leads them
Eats their meat and fur will wear.

To love, to be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and vulgar disparity of the life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never to forget.”
