Bandaged Heart
It comes in sharp
Sudden bursts
Shattering the wall
That protects my bandaged heart
Leaving me empty, vulnerable,
Exposed
Emotions are dangerous
Meant to be kept inside
Hidden from the ugly
Of our decaying world
Still, they always find a way
Of slipping through the cracks
When the bomb explodes
Uncontrollable feelings
Are let out of their cages
I lie here in silence
Listening closely
To the rhythm
Of my bandaged heart
In the darkness I can feel
Every breath
Catching in my throat
Every tear
Staining my face
Wiping away the innocence
That once defined me
