Doves
I once nurtured doves,
Beautiful pure creatures
That I loved with all my heart
Behind the iron bars of my identity;
At first I was hesitant
To open my cage,
But my curiosity soon swelled to tender Love;
I did not ask for it
But when it was too late,
They all pecked me on my ear
One by One
And they all flew away
And left me behind;
A solitary Lover
Whose fault was to allow Love to a-bind
