Piano
My fingers tense,
Notes spring forth,
Smooth and connected,
Short and fierce.
A falter's covered,
By a well placed pedal,
I regain full control,
Of a flowing melody.
I start a section soft,
I grow in strength and forte,
I die back down to pp,
Continue to set the music free.
My emotions pour into wordless song,
I feel my soul is swelling,
About ready to burst with pure exaltation,
The notes are already slowing.
My time's too short,
With certain songs,
I take a bow,
And sit down drained.
The thunderous applause,
Echoes strange, and jarring,
My mind's still in a state,
Of harmony and melody.
I touch my hands again,
To ivory and ebony keys,
Play, and finish with the contented sigh,
Piano leaves in me.
