Collision
I see skirts swoosh on the dance floor
hands press against backs
a dimly lit room
shadows looming in shady corridors
bombs drop right above us
the slight trace of worry
flickers in the eyes of my partner
I hear the laughter
faked affection
we talk just to
try and forget our fears
and the big band plays
brass bounces off stone walls
its notes collide with the dancers
I smell spirits
the nectar to forget our troubles
and the slight scent of underground dampness
the glimmer of a water drop
dust fills the air with each brace
small remnants of stone fall to the earth at our heels
miniscule cracks in the walls of our patience
I feel serenity
just for a minute
but the uncertainty of time looms constantly
in the mind of an entire generation
