Growing Up
maybe it’s when you start to learn

 the gray between the black and white

 or that love is more than

 tucking a stray hair behind her ear.

 maybe it’s inevitability

 and depression

 and watching boring films on Saturday nights.

 maybe it’s that moment your stomach drops

 and you look at the world with dull eyes.

 you cook vegetables you don’t like

 and forget how to sing (badly).

 maybe it isn’t responsibility;

 maybe it’s just insanity.
