Life Gives Water
Somewhere
Steady drops kiss the pain off the pavement
Creating concrete heartbeats
In the middle of these arid streets
Puddles are collecting and connecting in the crevices of asphalt
The air slowly becomes still as it screeches to a stagnant Halt
A little boy sets things back in motion
By jumping over these shallow yet kaleidoscopic oceans
With his shiny and new red rubber rain boots
He knows absolutely nothing about angles and roots
I’m not talking about math.
I’m talking about biology.
I am talking about life.
About seeing things from different perspectives
About swimming inside of puddles instead of jumping over them
Somewhere,
A woman sits in her fancy pool chair
Sipping Voss
Her sunglasses are so tinted,
She can’t even recognize her own reflection When it stares at her
Or rather, when it glares at her
Somewhere,
Deep in the womb of the earth
The ground prepares to give new birth
A seed soaks up water and germinates
Faster than the thoughts my mind creates
Somewhere,
A washing machine is running
Micelles in the detergent attach to the collar of a blue shirt
Gnawing away at microscopic specs of dirt
Cleaning up the grime from putting in over time
During a long weeks work

Somewhere,
A different kind of cleansing is taking place
Tear drops are washing a mourning father’s face
He sent his daughter to go in search of clean water
But then dawn became dusk and she returned in an urn
And my burning question to you is when we will learn
That life, gives water
