Less Alone
Have you ever thought
About running away?
Where no one can find you
Somewhere alone
A place only those caring few
Live, where you might feel
Less alone.
Have you ever tried it,
Just one time?
Not a child with silly thoughts,
But a young adult
When you're taught to know
Better, "Better," they say
"Be Better, Be someone else
Be someone that you
Can't possibly be."
Did it ever work,
Work more than you dreamed?
It wasn't meant to
Last this long,
At first it seemed.
Have you ever not known
What to do?
A candle in the dark,
Nowhere to go.
Your light can never be
Bright enough, perfect enough
You could never see
What they're trying
To make you be.
Have you ever seen
A river this long?
Water trails down
Two paths in the sky
Staining the cheer
That once was,
And may never be.
Have you ever thought
"It's too late now,
I can't go back."
Was is true,
A fact for you too?
I wonder what it would have been
Had the tempest
Never risen.
Had the storm never come,
The hating winds,
The insulting rain,
Life would be
A mystery left
Undone.
