The Answer
You ask me what is wrong
And why my face has lost its glow
You ask me why I’m downcast
I answer slow that I don’t know
You ask me why I tremble
My heart upon my sleeve to show
You ask me why the façade
I answer soft that I don’t know
You ask me why I’m hurting
And why the tears down my cheeks flow
You ask me why I’m lonely
I answer sad that I don’t know
You ask me what will help me
The seeds of joy again to sow
You ask what thing will save me
I answer still that I don’t know
I admit that I speak falsely
But I can’t say what my heart knows true
For how can I give a reply
How can I speak when the answer is you?
