Nine Eleven at Six
I was merely six years old when it happened,
as I sat in our gold Toyota listening
to talk of twin towers and terrorists—
a small child with bows in her hair
and dolls in her hands,
I did not understand the news
but still felt that strange, sharp
loss of life and love,
the ghosts of American heroes
caressing my callow cheeks.
