My Team
A tapestry of blankets smother the colorless floor,
And pillows line the blue painted wall.
They are asleep, but I know better.
Every hour spent
in the careless dreamland is
one less hour
spent
with her.
How is she now?
They won’t tell us,
and the silence is breaking my determination.
I look beyond my fears and see
Lacey cuddled gently
into the fuzzy, green blanket
against my leg.
Taylor is hidden in sleep,
Becca snuggled in comfort.
We are a team.
Without them,
I wouldn’t be.
The rainbow color nails would vanish.
The silky straight hair, gone.
Without them,
I would fall into the all-consuming darkness
threatening to gobble
me up every moment that
I stay me.
