I was the southern cowgirl.
Born on a farm
and raised around horses.
The girl with a huge southern accent,
and who was raised with hospitality
and respect.
All of my blood,
my sweat, and
my tears was put into my work.

I was that hick that went
from dirt roads
to the big city.
My long, blonde hair
was no longer in pig-tails ,
but down and straight.
My cowgirl hat was
exchanged for nothing
as makeup was caked on my face.

I was not the ideal girl.
School was put above everything else,
as I wasn’t invited to many parties.
I visit my true home in Tennessee
when I can,
because the city life
really isn’t for me.

I tried to change
who I was
just because I wasn’t
what society wanted me to be.
Moving changed my everything,
but moving will not change me.

I wrote this to express my beliefs and who I am, and how society will not change who I am.
