O faithful companion
I'm afraid that you are lost
But I remember that
You were a ray
Of my bright golden sphere
But now you're a drop
From my puffy cloud

O faithful companion
I'm afraid that you have wandered
Into the bustling streets
I thought that
You were yellow lines
On my endless road
But it may have seemed
To hit a dead end

Though o faithful companion
Wherever you are
Whether we'll find you
Or you'll be lost forever
Whether you're even alive
Or lay sleeping
Never waking up
You'll always be mine
My bridge across the water
My final piece of the puzzle
But mostly
My true
Loving
Faithful companion

I remember reading Madeline when I was a little girl. In one of the stories, this man said to Genevieve "Scat, scat! And don't come back!" Then, the poem just hit me.
