Happy Endings Never Come
Life began for her on a sunny afternoon,
Under the caring gazes of a mother and father
And happiness flourished like a garden
But every garden withers and so does love
Waves rise,
Water falls,
People rise,
Civilizations fall,
Love comes,
Love goes,
But happy endings never come
Words of love turned to shouts of spite
Loving mothers turned to fright
As angered fathers show their might,
Her mother left and so did love
Waves rise,
Water falls,
People rise,
Civilizations fall,
Love comes,
Love goes,
But happy endings never come
A bottle always rested in her father’s hand,
But as silver threads fell down her face
His rage; a hammer he couldn’t control
And so her heart of glass shattered with love in its broken shards
Waves rise,
Water falls,
People rise,
Civilizations fall,
Love comes,
Love goes,
But happy endings never come
She was the fish swimming upstream
While others went with the current
They snarled and cursed at her bruised frame,
And teachers never reached out and so love slipped out of her fingers
Waves rise,
Water falls,
People rise,
Civilizations fall,
Love comes,
Love goes,
But happy endings never come
Tears fell to the ground in inky puddles
A red pill resting in her shaking hand
As she brought it to her lips she fell
Knowing light would never come and love wouldn’t break the darkness
Waves rise,
Water falls,
People rise,
Civilizations fall,
Love comes,
Love goes,
But happy endings never come
Her breath was stopped in her chest
Her heartbeat dwindling like a dying stopwatch
Darkness took her in its arms until it overwhelmed her
In death’s arms comfort came and so in death came love
Waves rise,
Water falls.
People rise,
Civilizations fall,
Love comes,
Love goes,
but happy endings never come
