The Better Option
BEEP BEEP BEEP
The relentless alarm won’t
shut
up.
Rubbing the crusty goop from my eyes,
I use every aching muscle in my body,
to yank myself to consciousness.
BEEP BEEP BEEP
Legs squirm to find the wooden floor.
Like a toddler on a mission to walk,
I trudge past the small vent,
spewing out brisk air,
to the annoying clock,
still harassing me from across the room.
BEEP BEEP CLICK
Finally.
The pale orange sun peeps through my window pane.
He’s smiling at me, telling me the day has begun.
I tirelessly smile back, but ignore his requests for action.
And begin tiptoeing backwards,
towards my warm, engulfing dream station.
