“The role of a writer is not to say what we all can say, but what we are unable to say.” — Anaïs Nin

You strangle me
And interlock tight
Hands around my
Shrinking waist.
You convince me
I am ugly
Worthless
I become deceived
And stumble into
Your constricting plot
Leaving me with a sense
Of hallowed emptiness
And my body etched
With stinging acid
You paint my world
Dark blue
And keep me submerged
As I crave a rainbow
Color, something different
Almost happy
You have tied my
Hands and gagged me
With superficiality
You have convinced
Me; I need you
In order to be
Perfect
But when will my
Perfection come?
You whisper,
"You're almost there"
Again and again.
