On this day we rest.
Love is a battle at best.
We loved until we thought love had an end-
it continues on.
You died in my arms tonight-
your gray hair and wrinkled skin more beautiful than the first day we started this fight,
fifty six years ago,
that day it snowed-
I caught you looking back.
Who am I to blame?
I was doing the same.
In your eyes I found peace,
I was always jealous of your kindness.
Fifty six years ago you saved me from a life of pure blindness.
We've fought trough pain and pounding rain,
remember that storm we got caugh in on our honeymoon?
Soaked and shivering you turned to me and said, "Honey, where's the moon?"
I said, "Darling dear, the moon is there, even when its not. Just like me, I will always be, the battle of love lost is a battle never fought."
My sword is red and enemy bled,
all for you until this day. I see the scars you've taken for me - a warrior you will forever be.
When you took your final breath as you held my hand, I knew I would soon do the same.
I died in your arms tonight- your gray hair and wrinkled skin more beautiful than the day we started this fight, fifty six years ago-
that day it snowed,
I caught you looking back.
Who am I to blame?
I will forever do the same.
We take our final breath.
On this day,
we rest.
