"Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth." - Oscar Wilde

The soft white snow coats the frosty trees,
In the forest where the fairies sleep
The branches stir, a harsh, cold breeze
And still the summer fairies sleep.

A prancing lynx a-turns his head,
A redbreast lets out a sweet cheep,
The trees shiver from words unsaid,
And still the summer fairies sleep.

The scarlet berries, cold and frozen,
Tangle together in an icebound heap,
Reflecting off waters long forgotten
And still the summer fairies sleep.

A breath of wind strokes the lands,
Out the bush, the winter nymphs creep
They capture the warmth in their cold, cold hands
And still the summer fairies sleep.

The branches weep their diamond tears,
The powdery snow is ocean deep,
And somewhere above the sun appears,
But still the summer fairies sleep.

Yet when they wake, the most wonderful comes,
And around the flowers the children will leap,
The grass will grow green, the ground covered in blossoms
But for now the summer fairies sleep.
