Slowdancing in My Basement

it wasn’t a Cinderella ball
or anything even close
the incandescent lightbulbs
couldn’t hold a candle to romantic candlelight
and the music pouring out of my laptop’s speakers
couldn’t compare with a live orchestra
or even a DJ
but the two of us
swaying as one unit
holding each other at arm’s length
made that slowdance in my basement
the best dance of my life
maybe someday we’ll attend a real dance together
and if we do
I hope it’ll feel exactly the same
as slowdancing in my basement
