Nihil Sine Nefas

Tasks never started
Stories never finished

Words never said
Especially to
Your best friend, who you
Had an argument with the
Day before, about some
Stupid thing, and you said
“I hate you” and today you
Were going to say “I’m sorry”

Does she know you didn’t mean it?

You’ll never again gossip with her
Around a fire in the middle of December
Clutching mugs of hot chocolate
Long after they grow cold

No shopping for prom dresses
Or be her bridesmaid, watching
Her walk down the aisle in white

You’ll never fall in love yourself

The college diploma you’ll never receive
The job you should have had
The boy who would have loved you

All are in the land of dreams
Snatched away in a moment that
Lasted forever.

You were on your way to her house
To apologize, and later
Watch a movie

But someone ran a red light, and you
Were in the right place, but the wrong time

Tasks never started
Stories never finished
Words never said

One day, I started thinking about what would happen if I died young. How would it affect the people around me? This poem was born from that though process.
