Nihil Sine Nefas

I’ll live in darkness
Cloak me in sin and
Stain me with blood
Inhabiting the shadows
I will be the knife that stabs
Silently, then vanishes
Leaving no trace behind
I’ll be the spy
The sword of justice wielded
By a grim reaper

Because you’re the light
In my eternal night

I will do anything
Take on any burden
Perform any evil
If it means that you will
Shine a second longer

I’ll take your guilt
You’ll take my sins
I’ll be the flower
That secretes poison
Wielding an invisible blade
Forever hiding behind
A mask of lace and ice
A step away from fire
The dagger wound given
By the most trusted

You’re the darkness
While I blaze bright

I will do anything
To seem pure
You’ll do my work
Living in darkness so
I’ll remain in the light

Lightening the dark, darkening the light
Forever connected, never freed
From the prison, of their making

The author's comments:
I wrote this poem from my fascination with the medieval age. The two people in this poem are an aristocrat, and the aristocrat's assassin, who are "warped mirrors" of each other. Both of them hate each other, yet need each other to survive.
