Dead, but not gone
Long gone by the time I spoke my first words
You still found a way to sit at my bedside
every night as I cried my heart out
Your music taught me that peace was possible
You lulled the broken-hearted to sleep
Their every feeling falling off your lips
like their tears
You were the light in the dark
Through all the hate, you showed us love
Matched with beautiful melodies and intelligent lyrics
That never failed to soothe me
On the night the music stopped
Mark took more than your life with his bullet
He took a piece of everyone
That believed the world could be as one
Surely the God that Mark was so eager to avenge
Would have looked on his sons with sadness
At what they had become
That his message had driven one man
To kill another in cold blood
To kill all of the brilliance still left inside you
All the songs left unsung from one broken heart to another
Mark underestimated the power of truly phenomenal music
The kind that reaches your soul, and brings tears to your eyes
John Lennon is gone, but his music will never die
His words will still be sung
Generation after generation
People will know who he was
What he stood for
And what he did for us.
