closing an open door
hey
what’s up?
how’s it been since I last
saw you?
since you
were hanging on my
shoulder
since we were the
best friends in
the world
and you were
an all knowing sage
in my
naïve eyes
since I
gave in to you
and I
willingly told you
all my darkest
secrets and all my
biggest fears
since we
both agreed that
we needed
to make it happen
and we
needed to deafen our ears
to voices other than our own.
when your thoughts
became my thoughts
when my voice
became your voice
and I
couldn’t tell the difference
between you and me
when we
scorned all the others
and we
shut out
fathermother
when what was once good
made us shudder
and we pushed it all away…
because
it’ll make us monstrous
because
it’ll make us worthless
so then we
can’t give in to this…
we’ve got just another day…
we’ll turn our heads away—
we will
see no evil
we will
hear no evil
we will
taste no evil—
I was blind to irony
through your eyes—
do you think
that I don’t see you
for what you really are
as you
like the lamb you
aren’t
come knocking at my door—
