This Never Was Love

When you braided your fingers through mine,
I thought they would be weaved for life.
But you never traced my fingers.

When you let me rest my head on your shoulders,
I thought you would be my cushion for eternity.
But you inched away from me.

So now I walk away from;
That old desperate and dazed 'love',
Being caught up in the maze of 'love',
Thought it was real,
But it wasn't love.

When our tongues intertwined,
I thought you would never untangle yours from mine.
But you found another girl to lock lips with.

When your fingers tickled my sides,
I thought you would never let me catch my breath.
But I haven't had a hearty chuckle ever since you abandoned me.

So now I walk away from;
Self-serving,
Undeserving,
Constantly hurting 'love',
Deserting 'love'.

When you penetrated me with your blue eyes,
I thought you would always look at me with desire.
But your 'love' has turned to boiling hatred,
Melting away the illusion we created.

Our distorted definition of that spiteful four letter lie,
Has led us to the regrets we now drown in.
I can no longer afford to draw breaths
In the delusional past we once lived in.

So here I am, walking away from;
Confusing love,
Misusing love,
Abusing love,

This never was...
Love

The author's comments:
Having been through several unsuccessful relationships, I have now come to the realization that at this age, 'LOVE" isn't a four letter word;
It's a four letter lie.
