The Floor
I once was upright
yet now I find myself
sprawled on the cold, hard, ground,
floorboards hold my aching head
the fan spins
faster
faster faster
fasterfasterfaster
my heart plummets
to my stomach
thick and heavy
like the heat
quiet footsteps hit the stairs
sky’s teardrops hit the window
with a crash
“say no more!
Say no more!”
I’d tremble,
but I can’t move.
So shake it off and stand
My last tears have gone
back in the jar
I’m awake
and collecting the tear-stained
shards of glass
off the floor
and I am all alone.
