Houses line both sides of the street
Tall trees stand and watch over me
the sidewalk stretches in both directions

I look back and see the leaves fall
Reminders of my past
I tried to hold on
But they float by and slip past
Covering the sidewalk behind me
fading in the distance
I turn back

The wind hits my face, my eyes sting
My hair blows back, sparkling with newly fallen snowflakes

Ahead I see a green
The first blade of grass, the first leaf, the first flower blossom

I go forward
I see light, sunshine for the first time in ages.
And the sidewalk goes on
