Just Me and the Sea
Squawking seagulls
Opened my sleepy eyes to a
Smiling sun peeking through the curtains
Waves broke on the untouched sand
Soon to be trampled by foot falls of all sizes
And scorched by the heat
Families carrying armfuls were soon to arrive
Picnic baskets, chairs, umbrellas, and sand toys
Waiting to dot the shoreline
The salty air was calling me
An invitation to avoid the chaos that was to come
As the sun took its place higher in the sky
The gentle breeze as the porch door creaked open
Gave me confidence to tip toe to the water’s edge
And indulge in the calmness of just me and the sea
