a hunger
Something's swelling deep inside me
An essential need and a bit of greed
 Softly threatening to take over

An age old war waging on with this battle
A great beast lumbering in releasing a low grumble
I feel it spreading through my being
 A raging wildfire within me
It grows, it builds, it swells

From my toes to my nose
 it's in every cell
 Pulsing through my veins
 resting in each organ
It's part of me now there's no escape

Resistance? Useless, best to just give in
 As natural as breathing
 Or keeping your heart beating

Following me like a dark shadow
Until I give it what it needs
But of course, before I know it
We're right back where we started

 There's no winning, no surrenders
It gets what wants, what it needs, whatever
 Within me it triumphantly gloats
 Forever undefeated forever winning

Peacefully it rests in hiding until the next battle
Those silent hours the best of the day
Soon it's back stronger then before

Bearing down heavily on me as I try to escape its grasp
I do everything in my power
 Nothing works
 It's a hopeless fight
A bleak outcome to an endless struggle
