"But still!"

Nature is a powerful thing-
Powerful not in its
Ability to swiftly overcome,
But in its ability to fight back
From the edge of chaos.
Are we not told,
In the innocence of youth,
That each and every one of us,
Will change the world?
In a thousand years or more,
The stars will still shine,
Celestial bodies will still push on,
Regardless of our actions.
Shall we be caught up,
In the bustle of life?
Will we not appreciate
Mother Nature to whom we are betrothed?
Inseparable are life and nature,
One and the same.
Technology is just a tool,
A medium in which to satisfy
Immediate desires and goals.
This lonely planet is a grain of sand,
Awash in the vast desolate expanse.
Human repercussions may never
Reach the farther frontiers of space.
Take comfort in the fact
That people here on earth adore you,
Because in a thousand years or more,
Who will have heard of John Doe?

In a thousand years or more,
Nature’s ethereal fireworks will still carve
Their paths across the sky.
But will humans still carve their paths?
Or will we bring about the bane of our livelihood?

I was inspired to write this after watching a meteor shower.
