A Letter to Myself
Dear Old Me,
I miss the old you,
The sweet one.
The one who didn't care what the others thought.
The one with a genuine smile,
who laughed easily.
Where'd you go,
Why'd you leave?
We are told,
to depend on ourselves,
because you can never be let down.
We were told wrong.
What tightened your jaw,
made you quit trusting people,
made your smile fake.
Made it where you can't tell the truth to others.
It would break you.
You'd lose it.
Would that be so bad?
We can't go on like this,
the walls are coming down.
No one's an island.
Come back.
She needs us both.
Love,
The New Me

Isn't it ironic? We ignore the ones who adore us, adore the ones who ignore us, love the ones who hurt us, and hurt the ones that love us.
