An Evening
At the sight of the moon
 On the blazing horizon
 The nightbirds float out
 Once again

And they ring in my ear
As they sing by the clear
 Oh so sweetly, no doubt
 Could remain

 In the winter, few stay
Past the light of the day
For the frost is cruel to
 Those who brave it

 But those em'rald paved hills
 And that wild blushing sky--
I could not turn my back
 And betray it!

 How the stars blink away
 How they pulse,
 Bright as day

And the trees start to dance
 If wind gives
 Them the chance!

Oh but human eyes grow weak
 And the flutt'ring heart
 Grows weary

 I cannot stay,
 Dear night,
 With these burdens I carry.

I must walk 'til the Sun
Comes to claim sweet Moon's throne,

I must walk 'til little nightingale
Is left singing on her own.
