Summer Forever
It was silent there,
only filled with the strains of a broken love song.
Peaceful at best,
depressing at worst.
It was warm there,
but cool enough to be curled up with someone you love.
It was bright there,
with curls of sun,
shining through the forest,
resting on our shoulders.
My retreat,
was that summer day,
with me and you,
sitting beside you in the shade,
listening to your iPod,
and just thanking God we were together.
My retreat's been broken now,
along with my heart.
It's cracked,
the sun's gone,
the sky's cloudy,
and I face the cool air alone.
And only the silence resting around me now,
and the spot where you sat all those months ago.
It's time to face the truth.
You are no longer my rock,
this place holds no meaning now.
I'm over you,
but I'm not over the pain you left behind,
and the memories that are so bitter-sweet now,
I'm not over those either.
You're no longer on my mind.
Only the the leaves,
swirling in the wind,
and this place,
where once,
summer never left,
and now the air is as crisp as the pain you left behind.
Fall has come now.
Summer is over.
and so are we.
