“The role of a writer is not to say what we all can say, but what we are unable to say.” — Anaïs Nin

I remember the hot, grey pavement passing as we coasted along.
The tall trees quickly blurred by,
And when I closed my eyes,
It was as though I was flying.
I remember the fast paced lyrics of Aerosmith and U2
Blasting from your speakers.
Our halfway decent pitches carried out the windows
Of your red and silver Chevy truck.

I remember your memory-made monologues
As we cruised by the blue house
With a yellow playground.
I remember the slight curve of your mouth
When you ended an almost believable tall-tale.
I remember the way my laugh mixed with the air
Like a wind chime in the fall.

I remember the moment you glanced over,
When our journey paused at a blinking, red light.
Your smile said,
I was the best girl in the world.
I reached out and your protective hand,
Covered mine.
