It started to grow dark, as I headed out the door.
It was a chilly night but I was warm to the core.
I looked up at the sky, I saw diamonds in the night.
Each one a precious gem, a comforting light.
I started to walk, but I didn't know to where,
I didn't know where I was going, I didn't want to care.
Street after street I walked, each one seemed to sing,
Mile after mile I wandered each one had a different ring.
Thoughts flowed freely in my mind, each one didn't stay for long.
Each memory, every fear and worry played it's own special song.
Most people wonder what I do, after the evening rays are done.
I just have to think, as I hide away from the sun.
Each street I walked was different, but familiar in some unknown way.
Just me and the night there wasn't much to say.
Many people ask me where I go and why I like to roam.
I just smile and turn my head, as I answer "it's my home."
A nightengale called, such a lonely song it played,
Don't worry young nightengale there's no need to be afraid.
The night is a time of shadows but each one holds a light within
You have to look deeper young nightengale, look farther than the skin
For many say that the dark is a scary lonely sight,
But they are wrong. I know, Because I am King of the Night
