Bite Your Tongue
They walk past,
my books fall,
you snicker.
I bite my tongue,
to hold back the words unspoken.
It hurts.
I hear the remarks tossed around me,
"So dumb."
"Ever heard of a tan?'
"It's called hair spray, sweetie."
I bite my tongue some more
This time,
I feel a cut open up,
on my heart.
I feel their eyes,
watching,
ridiculing,
glaring.
I feel them bore into me,
and watch them whisper to one another.
I bite my tongue again,
so hard,
I taste blood.
Eventually, I'm going to bite it off,
if I'm not careful.
