What I Hate About You
What I hate about you:
The way every thing we did doesn't hang in my head, like all the true love stories do.
I don't remember every time you smiled,
every time you laughed,
I don't remember any of that.
The way you can give me a look,
and I'll shut up,
because I'm not supposed to talk about us,
Not around your friends,
or your parents,
or my parents,
or my sister,
or your siblings,
Scratch that,
I'm not supposed to talk about us, period.
I hate the way you can't ever meet my eyes,
they're too unnerving,
too searching,
too stormy,
too... eerie.
I hate the way you never hold me when I cry,
never ask why,
you just say "Cut it out."
or snort in disgust and walk away.
I hate the way you grab my hand,
when my best friend walks by,
like "She's mine. Keep walking."
I hate the way you say my name,
my full name only,
and the first part crisply pressed,
then the last syllable,
like it doesn't belong there.
"BRITT- any"
It's never sounded like that.
And I'm Bri, Brit....
Not BRITT-any.
What I hate the most is your manipulation,
your tricks,
your lies,
and your refusal to see your mistakes as wrong.
I guess I hate everything about you.
