85 Sprints
The wonderful, natural smell
Of freshly cut grass
Mixed with the putrid lingering smell of sweat
Fills my nose as I breathe in
The cool fall air
The grass dances with the wind
And the leaves on the trees surrounding the field
Shake and create their relaxing whoosh
The taste of saliva and plastic from my mouth guard
Linger in my mouth
Half way through
My eyes start to sting
Blurred vision,
Burning sensation,
Stinging wherever I look,
Sweat flows down my forehead like a waterfall
And scorch my eyes with every blink
What only takes about a half an hour
Seems like a vicious battle
Between my mind
Telling me to keep going
Don’t stop,
Ignore the pain,
Ignore the headache,
Ignore the cramp on your left side,
And my legs
Feeling like rubber
Burning, fatigued,
And wobbly
Wanting to stop
