express way
i stare at her face
delicate ink flowers swirl around
her
left eye
blue petals that must have taken
forever adorn the flowers
and i
think
why
a flourish of
acrylic tears that look like
the plumages of an aging bird
pour from her right eye and i
wonder
why
her lips are midnight black and
one side of her
mouth is painted higher than
the other
and i ask
why
speckles of golden
sunset splash across shoulders
uncovered.
and she whispers
why not
