Lies You Tell

I’m just a pawn,
an object.
I’m not human, I’m machine.
I’m pushed to my limit,
but for what?
Nothing comes in return.
I’ve finally found my voice
I’m ready to break the chains of
this electric chair.
I will stand up
And hold my ground.
“I feel trapped,” I say,
my voice muffled by its sheer power.
No one listens; all I am is white noise.
“It feels like you’re suffocating me,” I continue,
“I can feel your hands wrapped around my neck.
Sucking the life straight out of my lungs,
allowing me to waste away in this somber trance.”
You tower over me
Your two giant, rough hands
press down on my shoulders.
They press so hard
that I’m going under, squirming.
I try to move my feet,
fight you with every ounce of energy I have left,
but moving only makes it worse.

You ended this poem very suddenly, which, in most cases, would not be the best thing to do. However, in this poem, setting, and mood, it was just the right thing to do! Great job and great word choice!
